Ectopic pregnancy is when a pregnancy grows outside of your uterus, usually in your fallopian tube. Ectopic pregnancies are rare but serious, and they need to be treated.
What’s an ectopic pregnancy? An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilised egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus. Pregnancy begins with a fertilised egg. Normally, the fertilised egg attaches to the lining of the uterus.
Ectopic Pregnancy: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments
Normal pregnancies develop inside your uterus, after a fertilised egg travels through your fallopian tube and attaches to your uterine lining. Ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg attaches somewhere else in your body, usually in your fallopian tube — that’s why it’s sometimes called “tubal pregnancy.”
Ectopic pregnancies are rare — it happens in about 2 out of every 100 pregnancies. But they’re very dangerous if not treated. Fallopian tubes can break if stretched too much by the growing pregnancy — this is sometimes called a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. This can cause internal bleeding, infection, and in some cases lead to death.
Ectopic Pregnancy Symptoms
You may not notice anything at first. However, some women with an ectopic pregnancy have the usual early signs or symptoms of pregnancy — a missed period, breast tenderness and nausea.
If you take a pregnancy test, the result will be positive. Still, an ectopic pregnancy can’t continue as normal.
Signs and symptoms increase as the fertilised egg grows in the improper place.
Early warning of ectopic pregnancy
Often, the first warning sign of an ectopic pregnancy is pelvic pain. Light vaginal bleeding may also occur.
If blood leaks from the fallopian tube, you may feel increasing abdominal pain, an urge to have a bowel movement or pelvic discomfort. If heavy bleeding (hemorrhaging) occurs, you may feel shoulder pain as blood fills your pelvis and abdomen. Your specific symptoms depend on where the blood collects and which nerves are irritated.
Emergency symptoms during ectopic pregnancy
If the fertilised egg continues to grow in the fallopian tube, it can cause the tube to rupture. Heavy bleeding inside the abdomen is likely. Symptoms of this life-threatening event include extreme lightheadedness, fainting, severe abdominal pain and shock.
It is important to contact your doctor immediately if you are experiencing sharp pain that lasts more than a few minutes or if you have bleeding.
Ectopic pregnancies are diagnosed by your physician, who will probably first perform a pelvic exam to locate pain, tenderness, or a mass in the abdomen. Your physician will also use an ultrasound to determine whether the uterus contains a developing fetus.
Can I get pregnant again after an ectopic pregnancy?
Most people who have an ectopic pregnancy can have healthy pregnancies in the future, depending on the treatment you had and the condition of your fallopian tubes. If one of your fallopian tubes was removed or your tubes are scarred, it may be more difficult to get pregnant. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, you’re more likely to get another one in the future.

IVF Facts You Should Know Before Trying to Get Pregnant – Help for little older and struggling to get pregnant couples – Support if you have fertility problems – experience infertility- Pregnancy and baby – Things You Really Need to Know About IVF Before Using It
In vitro fertilization is a popular option for women who are looking for help conceiving, but there’s a lot that comes along with the fertility treatment. That’s why it’s important to have all the IVF treatment facts ahead of time.
You must speak with your obstetrics and gynecology or reproductive endocrinologist or our IVF experts at our reproductive Center to share information to help prepare for your future.
Start with a fertility test first.
Whether you want to get pregnant now or wait a little longer, it’s a good idea to know where your fertility levels stand. Fertility doctors says a simple test called Anti-Mullerian Hormone Blood Test (AMH) is a good indication of egg reserve and grades your fertility levels between high, medium, and low.
IVF isn’t always a first option.
Many women think IVF is their first option if they want it, but the truth is most fertility doctors will tell you to try natural pregnancy first. If you’re 30 to 35, you should try for at least six months and if it’s not working, then you do a work-up to see what to target.
Even after that, our Infertility doctor will try oral or injectable fertility medication before IVF. Of course, there’s always exceptions and those include a low score on your AMH or if you’re 40-years-old or older. If there’s a small sperm count you have to go straight to IVF or if a woman has tubal blockage, recurrent miscarriage (like three or more) or if there’s potential for certain genetic disorders, then you start off with IVF.
IVF works best when you’re younger.
Fertility experts says though we might think IVF is a treatment option when we’re older, the truth is, it actually works better if we’re younger.IVF doesn’t really fix the age of your eggs so you have to think about that early.Unfortunately, along with fertility, IVF success rates or successful pregnancies decline as women get’s older.
IVF Treatment – It comes at a cost.
You’ve likely heard that IVF can be expensive. It’s true. And while there are affordable fertility clinic to make treatment more accessible, like ours.
Be patient – During IVF Treatment
One of the biggest misconceptions about IVF is that it works right away. It’s very common you’ll need to do it more than once. In younger patients it may be a little less (if you’re not pregnant in the first cycle, you’ll likely get pregnant in the next), but if you’re in your forties the average is like three cycles. This is only an indicative figure and will vary from person to person and case to case basis. Please consult our experts for more on this.
You can have IVF using donated eggs and/or sperm
For some, the hope of having children is diminished by unforeseeable circumstances, such as developing cancer or finding out that you or your partner have low ovarian reserve or low sperm count. In such situations, fertility clinics offer donor conception, which uses sperm, eggs or embryos donated by someone else for your fertility treatment. The use of donor eggs and sperm is becoming more common today.
You are more likely to fall pregnant with a multiple pregnancy through IVF than natural pregnancy
It’s true with reproduction treatments, such as IVF or egg donation. This is because fertility clinics will often use a process called double embryo transfer when carrying out IVF, as traditionally, it was deemed to increase the chances of pregnancy.
It’s not 100 percent successful.
The most important fact to know about IVF is it’s not 100 percent successful—the process can take time, money, and even an emotional toll on your life, and in the end, it might not work. Thats were choosing the correct IVF clinic will help you a lot in evry single steps of the fertility treatment process.
Despite the fact that IVF success rates are on the incline because of constant advancement in Assisted Reproductive Technology, it is still important for women and couples who are seeking IVF treatment to take age into consideration. This is because the success of an IVF cycle is very much determined by the age of the embryo and sperm that is being implanted, for example the younger the embryo or oocyte, the greater the chance of conception.
There’s a significant emotional drain on the couple and the relationship. We encourage couples to find alternative outlets like exercise, counselling therapy to find balance throughout the treatment process. There are so many errors built into conception and things we can’t control due to genetics. Most IVF failures are not something that a couple can fix, even if a woman has a good, healthy diet and exercises—those are important, but it’s very age dependent.
Support during the fertility treatment is absolutely vital…infertility treatment can be such a solitary experience otherwise. Counselling can provide emotional support before, during or after fertility treatment. If dealing with infertility leaves you struggling to cope with everyday life or causes you to revisit past problems, counselling can be very therapeutic.

What is surrogacy?
Surrogacy is an arrangement in which woman carries and delivers child for another couple or person.
Surrogacy is a form of assisted reproductive treatment (ART) in which a woman carries a child in her uterus on behalf of another person or couple. A surrogacy arrangement or surrogacy agreement is the carrying of a pregnancy for intended parents. A surrogate mother is someone who conceives, carries and gives birth to a child for another person or couple (intended parents or commissioning parents). The surrogate mother agrees to give the child to that person or couple after the birth. Intended parents may seek a surrogacy arrangement when either pregnancy is medically impossible or pregnancy risks present an unacceptable danger to the mother’s health. Monetary compensation may or may not be involved in these arrangements. If the surrogate receives compensation beyond reimbursement of medical and other reasonable expenses, the arrangement is considered commercial surrogacy; otherwise, it is referred to as altruistic. The legality and costs of surrogacy vary widely between jurisdictions, sometimes resulting in interstate or international surrogacy arrangements.
There are two main types of surrogacy, gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. In gestational surrogacy, the pregnancy results from the transfer of an embryo created by in vitro fertilization (IVF), in a manner so the resulting child is genetically unrelated to the surrogate. Gestational surrogates are also referred to as gestational carriers. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is impregnated naturally or artificially, but the resulting child is genetically related to the surrogate.

Is surrogacy for me?
Surrogacy may be appropriate, if you have a medical condition that makes it impossible or dangerous to achieve pregnancy & to give birth, which includes,
- Absence or non-development of womb
- Recurrent IVF Failure (implantation failure) OR recurrent miscarriages
- Intrauterine adhesions
- Life threatening medical conditions involving heart, liver or blood diseases, in which pregnancy is contraindicated.
For any surrogacy arrangement there needs to be intended parents, surrogate mother, egg donor and the sperm donor as the case may be. If either of the parent is not able to contribute his sperm or her egg then the help of the donor will be taken. Surrogate mothers role is very important and crucial in the whole process of surrogacy. Due care and search must be taken before selecting a surrogate mother.
Surrogacy clinic like ours have a very meticulous and stringent criteria for choosing a surrogate. Most of the surrogates are married and have children. However, for some exceptional cases, there are few who are widows and have children and are willing to do surrogacy. This is done on the requirement of certain clients whose country’s laws allow easier return of the baby with the intended parents if the child is born to a surrogate mother who is single.
Going for surrogacy is a very big decision. It involves lot of ethical, moral, and also financial issues. This is the reason you need to be very careful while taking a step ahead in choosing surrogates. The surrogacy is a very expensive process too. But for your knowledge there are also affordable surrogacy options available in many places. There are few countries where the cost of surrogacy is not that high as it is in some countries. So those who are willing to go for affordable surrogacy can think of surrogacy abroad.
India has become the top international surrogacy destination for couples and even single men and women who have not been able to have children through natural means. The success of the procedure in India, is greatly attributed to the cutting edge technology adopted by the fertility clinics in India, highly qualified fertility specialists, social acceptance of surrogacy, and low cost of surrogacy, all leading to India’s high success rate in gestational surrogacy.

How Does Surrogacy Work?
Surrogacy involves the implantation of an embryo /embryos in selected surrogate mother using either,
- Eggs and sperms of the intended parents
- Donor eggs fertilized with sperms of indented father
- To transfer US citizenship to the offsprings, atleast one gamete used for surrogacy treatment should be of the couple,
Who are the surrogate mothers?
- Our all Surrogate mothers share the same goal …to give the gift of life.
- They want to make it possible for others to feel the joy of becoming parents,
- They are usually local young women from Surat itself or from nearby cities.
- Majority of them are young housewives (less than 30 years of age) and having one or two normal deliveries, with having genetically and physically normal babies.
- We screen them for required blood tests and genetic & sexually transmitted diseases as well as medical diseases.
The cheaper availability of surrogates in India is attracting a lot of interest. While not just the ease of the rules but also cost that is incurred here is something that is quite tempting. Surrogacy programs in India are as successful as any other good program in the world, with strict screening of egg donors and confidentiality maintained. Low cost surrogacy in India makes it possible even for couples who are not super-rich, to start a family. Surrogacy abroad in India has become the favorite destinations for couples from USA, UK, Australia, Israel and other countries because of the low cost of surrogacy treatment and easy Indian laws relating to surrogacy.

It is the dream of most couples to have their own children as part of their relationship. Many couples are not fortunate enough to attain pregnancy. After one year of trying to conceive without the use of birth control, if a woman is unable to get pregnant, infertility is suspected. For the women aged 35 or over waiting period should not be for more than six months. Then it’s the time for the couple to seek the help of infertility doctors. Infertility or Fertility doctors are the specialists who study Reproductive endocrinology and Infertility (REI), a branch of medicine that identifies and treats infertility in both men and women.
In vitro fertilization is an option for many couples who cannot conceive through conventional therapies. IVF is an option for couples who have tried unsuccessfully to conceive or for whom other treatments have failed. IVF is an acronym for in vitro fertilization. IVF is one of several assisted reproductive techniques (ART) used to help infertile couples to conceive a child.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to treat fertility or genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. During IVF, mature eggs from women are collected (retrieved) from the ovaries and fertilized with the sperm of a men in a laboratory in the dish. Then the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs are implanted in the uterus. One cycle of IVF takes about two weeks. IVF is the most effective form of assisted reproductive technology. The procedure can be done using your own eggs and your partner’s sperm. Or IVF may involve eggs, sperm or embryos from the known or anonymous donor. In some cases, a gestational carrier — a woman who has an embryo implanted in her uterus might be used. The carrier is called gestational surrogate mother.
Your chances of having a healthy baby using IVF depend on many factors, such as your age and the cause of infertility. In addition, IVF can be time-consuming, expensive and invasive. If more than one embryo is implanted in your uterus, IVF can result in a multiple pregnancy.
IVF is an option for couples who have tried unsuccessfully to conceive or for whom other treatments have failed. The reasons IVF is done include – poor sperm quality and/or quantity, obstructions between the egg and sperm, ovulation problems, and sperm-egg interaction problems. These problems can prevent couples having a baby naturally, and IVF helps to solve this.
Other eligible patients are those with infertility due to a condition not responsive to conventional therapy, including one or more of the following:
- Tubal blockage or failed tubal reversal
- Endometriosis
- Cervical factor
- Pelvic adhesions
- Male factor
- Unexplained infertility/ failed conventional therapy
- Genetic testing (PGD) for inheritable diseases
- Genetic testing (PGD) for possible reasons for multiple miscarriages
- Fertility preservation for cancer or other health conditions.
- Previous tubal sterilization or removal.
- Unexplained fertility
To be considered for IVF, a woman must either have a uterus capable of carrying a child, or a compassionate gestational carrier. For optimal results, the woman should not be more than twenty percent over her ideal body weight. Women between the ages of 40-43 are considered for IVF on an individual basis based on previous testing, such as FSH levels and/or responses to gonadotropin therapy.
In vitro fertilization (IVF) involves several steps — ovulation induction, egg retrieval, sperm retrieval, fertilization and embryo transfer. One cycle of IVF can take about two weeks, and more than one cycle may be required.
Cycle Monitoring/ Ovulation induction
To begin the process of IVF, the woman is given fertility drugs to stimulate egg production and control the timing of ovulation. This helps maximize the number of eggs produced, thereby increasing the chance that at least one will be fertilized, and will implant itself in the uterus. Frequent blood tests to monitor hormone levels and ultrasounds to monitor follicle development are required. Stimulation protocols may vary depending on multiple factors.
Egg Retrieval
The eggs are harvested primarily through a transvaginal ultrasound-guided procedure. The ultrasound-guided egg retrieval is performed on an outpatient basis with monitored I.V. sedation. Recovery from the sedation requires thirty minutes. The patient is discharged from the surgery center with instructions to rest for the remainder of the day.
Sperm Retrieval
Once the eggs are retrieved and the sperm sample collected, they are immediately given to the embryology laboratory for incubation. Normally IVF lab is located adjacent to the operating room. The man’s semen is specially prepared in order to select the most viable sperm. In conventional IVF, the sperm are then placed together with the eggs in an incubator for 12-18 hours to allow for fertilization.
Fertilization
In conventional IVF, the sperm are then placed together with the eggs in an incubator for 12-18 hours to allow for fertilization. When sperm quality is compromised, the eggs are inseminated with a single sperm by means of a micromanipulation procedure known as ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection). This may also be used on half of the eggs to enhance fertilization in some circumstances. Following normal fertilization, early embryonic development is closely observed on a daily basis. In certain situations, your doctor may recommend other procedures like assisted hatching and Preimplantation genetic testing before embryo implantation.
Embryo Transfer
Within 72 hours after egg retrieval, the embryos are generally ready to be transferred into the woman’s uterus through a thin tube, or catheter, gently inserted through the cervix. This is a non-surgical procedure performed under ultrasound guidance with no need of sedation. The woman may wish to rest for the remainder of the day in order to maximize the chance for success. One should avoid vigorous activity which could cause discomfort. About ten to twelve days following the embryo transfer, the woman’s blood is drawn and tested to determine if pregnancy has occurred.
Side effects of the IVF procedure may include passing a small amount of clear or bloody fluid shortly after the procedure, Breast tenderness due to high estrogen levels, Mild bloating, Mild cramping and Constipation.IVF requires a significant physical, emotional, financial, and time commitment. The risk factors associated with IVF includes multiple births, premature delivery and low birth weight, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, miscarriage, egg-retrieval procedure complications, ectopic pregnancy, birth defects, ovarian cancer and stress.
